Windows 10 – Get it now
Windows 10, the latest OS from Microsoft is live. Millions of existing customers and potential converts have been looking forward to what is expected to be the one OS to rule them all. This OS promises a smooth blend between traditional & touchscreen use. Hailed as the last ever Upgrade of Windows ever, this will soon become a must to own if you like working on the Windows platform.
Initially Microsoft addressed & welcomed the elephant in the room i.e people who were using pirated copies by giving them an opportunity to upgrade for free too, but redacted the statement soon after. So if you own a pirated copy of windows, it will remain a pirated copy even after you update to the latest version. Though you can buy Windows 8 From following links and get a FREE upgrade for lifetime as this is final version of Windows.
On the other hand, owners of existing copies of Original Windows 7 and Windows 8.x will be able to upgrade for free, as long as they do so in the next 365 days. All you have to do is, head over to “Microsoft Windows 10 Download” and follow the instructions to download the Windows 10 media creation tool.
The tool includes:
File formats optimized for download speed.
Built-in media creation options for USB’s and DVDs.
Optional conversion to ISO file format.
It will ask you whether you want to
1. Upgrade This PC Now;
2. Create Installation Media for Another PC.
If you go for the first step the process is pretty straightforward. But if you want to go for a second option, you will need to follow certain steps.
Be sure to select the correct type of installation media for the copy of Windows 10 running on your PC — Windows 10 Home or Professional. You should also choose your language and select whether you want the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Like this:
You can install Windows 10 from this installation media like you would any other operating system. Just Restart your computer with the USB drive or DVD inserted and boot from that device. Select “Install Now” once the Windows installer starts. When you reach a screen asking for your Windows 10 product key, click the Skip button since you don’t need a Windows 10 product key if you’re upgrading through the free upgrade offer.
You would obviously need to fulfill a certain requirements in hardware / software terms before installing Windows 10. The minimum requirements are as follows:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
As you can see these specs aren’t that hard to come by. Almost all PC / Laptop owners qualify for the update. But just in case you don’t, this is an excellent excuse to go shopping.
For some people the activation process if instant. But if Microsoft’s activation servers are overloaded (Error code 0xC004F034), it may take some time before your system activates. You can open the Settings app, select Update & security, and select Activation to check your activation status. If it’s not activated, you may see information here that can help you activate.
Now as expected from any software update, there are also errors in installation. These include a lot of pesky error codes. Microsoft has been smart in addressing these codes and telling you “how to work around them“. If you don’t find any of these helpful, you can always browse the web for further help.
These bugs and issues are an expected part of upgrading to a new software, so we really recommend that people hold off for a few weeks. But if you can’t hold off & really need to fulfill your craving to install Windows 10 on your computer, we recommend using a virtual machine for initial testing. Plus creating a system image of your entire computer in case you don’t like it & want to go back to something more familiar.
In the end, the most important thing that you would need, is patience. Going for an entirely new software experience is always frustrating. But keeping a calm head can reduce half of your troubles.
